Al Wheeler is a fundraising consultant who provides fundraising coaching and training services to individuals, groups and gift-supported organizations in North Carolina and the Southeast US.

  Biography

Al Wheeler, a native of Durham, NC, brings to the service of his clients a forty-five year career in the field of institutional resource development. His funds development experience includes Duke University, Guilford College, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Ravenscroft School, and the North Carolina Symphony. During his six years with the fundraising counseling firm of Ketchum, Inc., he directed some of the firm's largest campaigns with distinction. As an officer with the firm, he was responsible for the fundraising programs of a broad array of gift-supported organizations throughout the Southeast. He formed the fundraising counseling firm of Wheeler & Associates, FRC, in 1986. In 1993, he was accredited with the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification by the National Society of Fundraising Executives (now Association of Fundraising Professionals, AFP).

In more recent years, Al has developed as an individual consultant for a select group of clients in the region and his firsthand knowledge of leaders throughout the state and region, and familiarity with patterns of giving in the state and nationally, recommend his service as fundraising counsel, individual consultant, and funds development coach. Wheeler & Associates, FRC, serves North Carolina and the Southeast US with Fundraising Consulting and Training Services.

  Civic

Throughout his career, Al has been active in Rotary International, holding nearly every office at the club level including president of the Rotary Club of Blowing Rock during Rotary’s centennial year. Since then he has served as an Assistant Governor of his Rotary district for two terms. He has served as a member of the Board of Adjustments of the Town of Blowing Rock, is married with four grown children, and is active in his church. He is currently serving as Vice President of the Watauga County Community Foundation, a community affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation.

  Seminars

Al Wheeler holds quarterly seminars on a variety of subjects broken down into courses of interest in the field of ongoing resource development for gift-supported organizations. Seminar topics are suggested and planned by individuals and organizations being coached by Al Wheeler. These popular seminars are usually held from mid-morning until mid-afternoon, including a buffet lunch, and are limited to a maximum of 36 persons.

  Coaching Assignments

One-on-one coaching is available for (one or possibly two) individuals on the basis of subjects of particular interest. Sample assignments are multiples of four hours for each topic, depending on the objectives of the individual or goals of the organization. These arrangements are made with agency presidents, executive directors, funds development officers, board members and other staff and volunteers of not-for-profit gift-supported organizations.

The fees for seminars and coaching assignments are held to a reasonable and affordable level, are agreed upon in advance, and can be paid over time.
